Parent & Me

In our Mommy & Me class toddlers, boys and girls ages 18 – 30 months, and their parents/caretakers dance together exploring rhythm and movement, strengthening balance and basic coordination skills, and experience their first glimpse into a classroom environment.  Children will learn some basic ballet terms, work with props such as ribbons, scarves, bean bags, and so on to develop gross and fine motor skills, and work on following directions while also given freedom to explore on their own and dance.  The main goal of this class is to have fun, smile, laugh, and learn with your little loved one.  Classes enroll in four week increments as well as drop-in availability.  This is a great first introduction to dance and prepares students for our Star is Born drop-off class.

Each ballet class consists entirely of technique and is partitioned into barre work, port de bras, center barre, adagio, and allegro. Children spend approximately thirty minutes of each class at the barre in order to acquire the strength, balance, and placement necessary to execute center work correctly. Ballet is the foundation from which all forms of dance originate. Therefore, our staff recommends that all students take ballet to ensure proper technique and form.

Our Tap and Jazz Department is staffed with dance professionals who recognize and nurture each child as an individual-building their self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. The styles of tap taught are designed to refine tap skills and focus on intricate footwork. Students will put their fundamentals to work by learning new steps, rhythms patterns and combinations. Our Jazz Department concentrates on traditional jazz techniques updated with the modern and hip-hop stylization. Jazz technique develops strength, coordination, and the controlled movement of each part of the body.

Hip Hop

The newest form of jazz which redefines and reinvents many early jazz dances and movements. Hip Hop incorporates some of the basic jazz techniques, such as turns, jumps, and flexibility but with an edge, danced to contemporary music. This is the style you see on music videos.

Lyrical and Contemporary are fluid styles of jazz dance blending movements from classical ballet and modern dance which expands the student’s sense of interpretation and movement. This class combines the fundamentals of ballet with lyrical, starting with a ballet warm-up and then moving to the center floor.

Star is Born

Our Star is born program, ages 2.5-4 years, introduces your child to the most popular forms of dance: ballet, tap, and jazz. Typically, children within those age ranges have a shorter attention span so we switch the form of dance every 20 min. to keep their interest. Additionally, we feel that constant encouragement and praise cultivates a love and enjoyment of dance. We bring that attitude to each one of our classes. It’s very important to us at Studio L that your child learn proper technique and terminology, but above all we want them to have fun.

Acro and tumbling classes incorporate tumbling, Rhythmic gymnastics, stretching and strengthening and are divided by age and level.
