STAR IS BORN
Our Star is born program, ages 2.5-4 years, introduces your child to the most popular forms of dance: ballet, tap, and jazz. Typically, children within those age ranges have a shorter attention span so we switch the form of dance every 20 min. to keep their interest. Additionally, we feel that constant encouragement and praise cultivates a love and enjoyment of dance. We bring that attitude to each one of our classes. It’s very important to us at Studio L that your child learn proper technique and terminology, but above all we want them to have fun.
Our Tap and Jazz Department is staffed with dance professionals who recognize and nurture each child as an individual-building their self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. The styles of tap taught are designed to refine tap skills and focus on intricate footwork. Students will put their fundamentals to work by learning new steps, rhythms patterns and combinations. Our Jazz Department concentrates on traditional jazz techniques updated with the modern and hip-hop stylization. Jazz technique develops strength, coordination, and the controlled movement of each part of the body.
The newest form of jazz which redefines and reinvents many early jazz dances and movements. Hip Hop incorporates some of the basic jazz techniques, such as turns, jumps, and flexibility but with an edge, danced to contemporary music. This is the style you see on music videos. A totally fun class for all ages and abilities.
Lyrical and Contemporary are fluid styles of jazz dance blending movements from classical ballet and modern dance which expands the student’s sense of interpretation and movement. This class combines the fundamentals of ballet with lyrical, starting with a ballet warm-up and then moving to the center floor.
Each ballet class consists entirely of technique and is partitioned into barre work, port de bras, center barre, adagio, and allegro. Children spend approximately thirty minutes of each class at the barre in order to acquire the strength, balance, and placement necessary to execute center work correctly. Ballet is the foundation from which all forms of dance originate. Therefore, our staff recommends that all students take ballet to ensure proper technique and form.
Students who are on Pointe must take at least one additional ballet classes per week. Readiness for Pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by their age. The instructor will advise parents when a student has the necessary strength and maturity to go on Pointe. Pointe class may be taken only with the permission of the instructor.
